Condition
A design's current state of functionality and upkeep.
If a design is in “good shape” or has fallen into disrepair, it can drastically impact a person’s experience when they use it. This even applies to theme parks and physical locations. For example, one of “Mickey’s Ten Commandments” underscores the importance of maintaining Disney Theme Parks and Resorts and how their condition can impact Guest experiences. Tomorrowland in The Magic Kingdom is not very magical if litter is scattered around Astro Orbiters or ride vehicles look like they are 45 years old. A design that looks old and beat up and looks “loved” and a shiny and new design, such as a syringe or medical equipment that just came out of the wrapper, are perceived differently. Designers who are intentional about condition are more likely to facilitate intended experiences with their creations.
Examples of Condition
- Brand new
- Well-worn
- Broken screen
